I was going over some old photo files last night and came across my cemetery folder. I love photographing cemeteries and documenting any strange activity I find.
Anytime we go vacationing, I look up the local cemetery and grab my camera and off I go. Most people think that all cemerties are haunted, but that simply isn't true. I have been through many whjere there is no evidence at all that earth bound souls roam the manicured grounds.
I suppose my facination with cemeteries began in 1975 when I was 8 years old. I'd already been communicating with relatives that had died years before I was born, so cemeteries were not particularly scary. Little did I know that some were down right frightening - especially when you are 8!
I lived in Clinton Connecticut at that tim. The area was far less developed than it is now and kids could ride their bikes into town; which we did and often. Our favorite place to play was the small cemetery on route 1 before you got to the town center. It was a warm summer day. The sun was shining brightly, so who would have thought anything spooky could happen? Certainly not us.
We were standing next to, what we thought, was an above ground tomb. The kind that look like a big cement rectangle with a lid that weighs a ton. All of a sudden, we heard this loud scraping sound, like stone on stone. It was lou, scary and coming from the big tomb thing next to us.
I must add that we were not leaning on the tomb nor were we standing overly close. The lid was way too heavy for us to move individually or all together. The lid that had been in perfect alignment was now askew! We don't know how or who, but it was moved. We beat feet out of there and were afraid to tell anyone what happened because we thought we'd be in trouble for being in the cemetery in the first place.
It would be 8 years before I went back and spent any real time there. I had moved to Massachusetts and would not have my own transportation for quite some time. When I did return, I found that it had some paranormal activity. It was not as frightening that time around. I often see husbands and wives uniting and walking off together. Perhaps stuck in a perpetual loop that they cannot escape on their own.
As far as I know, that cemetery is still there as an historical area in down town. It is quite small, beautiful, and still pretty haunted. Perhaps, if you go there, you will find a ghost story of your own.
